Dean O’Leary is a multi-award winning guitarist and singer/songwriter from Sydney Australia. Dean grew up listening to and was influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder and The Eagles amongst many other greats.
Dean’s first professional gig was at the early age of 15, performing with his late father, Jack O’Leary. Jack was a very successful and well loved Australian singer, comedian and actor. Jack advised Dean, that quote, “You really sound great in the bedroom son, but it’s time to get you out there, playing on ‘The Green”. (The Stage)
So then it began with Dean’s early experiences of performing in front of large crowds in Auditoriums and theaters around Australia. One of the very first shows he played with his Dad was at the Tweed Heads Bowling club in the main Auditorium to a packed house. Dean’s nerves were flying high, and he felt like he was about to be sick. When mid show he relayed this to his father, Jack pulled back away from the mic and said, “Ok son, do what you gotta do, but then wipe your mouth, and get back on stage”. The show must go on.
From age 19 and onwards he moved on to play in various bands all over Australia and Internationally. Dean has received numerous awards for live performance in Australia, including ACE awards and a MO award, and with three ACE awards for his own ‘Dean O’Leary band’ and as a solo artist.
Having lived in Los Angeles now for the last ten years, Dean has performed with Sergio Mendes, Maxine Nightingale, Connie Stevens, Joely Fisher, Hudson Thames, Fisher & Thames, Eartha, The Twilight Lords, Band of Liars amongst many other artists.
